Derivas Urbanas: la Ciudad Extrañada

Desde la arquitectura no sólo se construyen lugares con acero, madera, hormigón o cristal, sino también con la acción y la mirada. A través de derivas realizadas en distintas ciudades se establecen diferentes maneras de percibir la realidad urbana, maneras que a menudo quedan sepultadas bajo las representaciones dominantes de la ciudad. Construir documentos que muestren la ciudad desde ópticas tangenciales, relacionadas con visiones subjetivas y vivencias concretas, va más allá de un mero ejercicio de representación. Los mapas de derivas urbanas expuestos en este artículo ponen de manifiesto relaciones intensas con la ciudad a través de la acción que resultan en nuevas visiones urbanas. Nuevas maneras de percibir la ciudad abren caminos a nuevos modos de entender la rica realidad urbana, que a su vez inauguran nuevos modos de transformarla desde el proyecto arquitectónico. El sentido último de las derivas presentadas es la de abrirse a la riqueza de la ciudad para descubrir en ella múltiples niveles de sentido que sugieren nuevas maneras de transformar la ciudad.

Architecture can be used not only to build places with steel, wood, concrete or glass, but also through action and the gaze. Based on a series of dérives carried out in different cities, different ways of perceiving urban reality are established – ways that are often buried under the dominant representations of the city. Constructing documents that show the city from tangential perspectives, tied into subjective visions and specific experiences, goes beyond a mere exercise in representation. The maps of urban dérives displayed in this article demonstrate intense relationships with the city through action, which result in new urban visions. Nine ways of perceiving the city open the doors to new ways of understanding the richness of urban reality, which in turn can bring about new ways of transforming that reality through architectural design. The ultimate meaning of these dérives has to do with being receptive to the richness of the city in order to discover the multiple levels of meaning therein that can suggest new ways of transforming the city.
